Current Clinical Applications of In Vivo Gene Therapy with AAVs

Jerry R. Mendell et al.

Summary: Hereditary diseases are caused by gene mutations, affecting millions of Americans, and gene therapy using adeno-associated virus (AAV) has shown promise in treating these diseases. Five treatments have been approved for commercialization, with many more in clinical trials, showcasing the potential of gene therapy in treating a wide range of genetic disorders.

N-Acetylcysteine Combined With Dexamethasone Treatment Improves Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss and Attenuates Hair Cell Death Caused by ROS Stress

Xue Bai et al.

Summary: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) is a common emergency worldwide, with increasing evidence showing imbalance of oxidant-antioxidant in patients. Combining oral N-acetylcysteine (NAC) with intratympanic dexamethasone (ITD) therapy may be more effective than ITD alone for the treatment of SSNHL. Significant hearing gain at 8,000 Hz and higher hearing recovery rates were observed in the NAC group compared to the control group, indicating the superiority of NAC in combination with ITD therapy.
