EPISKELETOBIONTS OF LARGE RUGOSE CORALS FROM THE MIDDLE DEVONIAN MESOPHOTIC PALAEOENVIRONMENT RECORDED IN THE POKRzYWIANKA BEDS (HOLY CROSS MOUNTAINS, POLAND)

Michal Zaton et al.

Summary: This study describes and analyzes a fossil community from the Middle Devonian in Poland, suggesting that it developed in a low-light, lower mesophotic paleoenvironment. The taxonomic composition of this community differs from other nearby communities, likely due to specific local conditions and larval dispersal patterns.

New encrusting tentaculitoids from the Silurian of Estonia and taxonomic status of Anticalyptraea Quenstedt, 1867

Michal Zaton et al.

Summary: A new encrusting tentaculitoid species, Lindstroemiella eichwaldi, is described from the Silurian of Saaremaa Island in Estonia. It shares some features with Anticalyptraea but differs in shell morphology and structure, and is proposed to be classified under a new order Anticalyptraeida.

Adaptive function and phylogenetic significance of novel skeletal features of a new Devonian microconchid tubeworm (Tentaculita) from Wyoming, USA

Michal Zaton et al.

Summary: A new genus and species of microconchid tubeworm, Aculeiconchus sandbergi n. gen. n. sp., is described from the Givetian (Devonian) Maywood Formation of Cottonwood Canyon, Wyoming, USA. This study reveals the previously undocumented adaptive strategy of hollow spines on the tube underside in microconchids, suggesting a possible phylogenetic relationship with cyclostome bryozoans. The occurrence of microconchids in the Maywood Formation provides insights into their opportunistic colonization and adaptive innovations in estuarine environments.

Middle Devonian brachiopod-hosted sclerobiont assemblage from the northern shelf of Gondwana (Mader Basin, Morocco): Diversity, colonization patterns and relation to coeval palaeocommunities

Michal Zaton et al.

Summary: A study on the brachiopod-hosted sclerobiont assemblage from the Middle Devonian in Morocco reveals a diverse community with at least 26 sclerobiont taxa. The dominant organisms in this community are encrusting organisms, such as bryozoans and foraminifers, while bioeroders are represented by Clionolithes and Oichnus species. The study suggests that the sclerobionts developed in a calm, euphotic marine environment with abundant shelly substrate available for colonization.

Disaster microconchids from the uppermost Permian and Lower Triassic lacustrine strata of the Cis-Urals and the Tunguska and Kuznetsk basins (Russia)

Dmitry E. Shcherbakov et al.

Summary: The study describes aggregative microconchid tubes from upper Permian and lower Triassic lacustrine and fluvial strata in eastern Russia. These tube structures attached to various substrates including clam shrimp carapaces and terrestrial plant fragments, indicating their presence in non-marine continental basins as suspension feeders. The findings suggest that microconchids quickly dispersed into both marine and continental basins following the Permian-Triassic mass extinction event, indicating their adaptability to different environmental conditions.

Late Eifelian Kacak Episode in the epeiric Belarusian Basin: Role of terrestrial-marine teleconnections

Marek Narkiewicz et al.

Summary: The study of the Kostyukovichi Formation in the Belarusian Basin reveals a marine transgressive-regressive cycle associated with the global Kacak Episode, characterized by intermittent hypoxic conditions and salinity fluctuations. Bioevents related to transgression, climate humidization, and expansion of aquatic environments were observed. This episode is explained as a result of complex interrelations of various terrestrial and marine processes initiated by global warming and terminated by enhanced CO2 sequestration and climatic cooling.

Middle and Late Devonian paleogeography of the eastern Anti-Atlas (Morocco)

Jobst Wendt

Summary: The eastern Anti-Atlas of Morocco is one of the most completely exposed and perfectly documented biostratigraphic records of the entire Devonian worldwide. The area is differentiated into shallow basins, pelagic platforms, and land areas, with the Tafilalt Platform being the dominant paleogeographic feature providing the best-documented biostratigraphic record through the entire Devonian.

Paleotemperature record of the Middle Devonian Kacak Episode

Thomas J. Suttner et al.

Summary: The Middle Devonian Kacak Episode was a short-lived period of marine dys-/anoxia associated with climate warming. New oxygen isotope data from the Carnic Alps (Austria, Italy) and the Prague Synform (Czech Republic) suggest that sea surface temperatures in the southern hemisphere low latitudes during this time were approximately 6 degrees Celsius higher than previously assumed.

Paleoecology of the first Devonian-like sclerobiont association on Permian brachiopods from southeastern Mexico

Miguel A. Torres-Martinez et al.

Summary: This paper describes a sclerobiont association from the Paso Hondo Formation (Roadian, middle Permian) in Chiapas, Mexico, consisting of hederelloids, microconchids, bryozoans, and crinoids encrusting brachiopod shells. The paleoecological analysis revealed the abundance of bryozoans as the most common sclerobionts present. The distribution analysis suggests that sclerobiont colonization was influenced by various factors such as inhalant currents of brachiopods and position of hosts. The described community represents the youngest record of co-occurring microconchids, hederelloids, and bryozoans, as all similar communities known before originated from the Late Devonian.
