Energy dissimilation characteristics and shock mechanism of coal-rock mass induced in steeply-inclined mining: comparison based on physical simulation and numerical calculation

Huicong Xu et al.

Summary: In recent years, rockbursts induced by the instability of the coal-rock mass have become more serious in steeply-inclined coal seam mining in the Urumqi mining area. This study investigated the energy dissemination characteristics and squeeze-prying induced-shock mechanism of steeply-inclined coal-rock mass during deep mining. The results revealed the deep mining limit depth of the Wudong Coal Mine and the long-term low frequency-energy storage period of the mass. The study also proposed control measures to effectively reduce high energy microseismic events and stress concentration in the strong-weak structural area.

Mechanical characteristics and permeability evolution of salt rock under thermal-hydro-mechanical (THM) coupling condition

Cheng Lyu et al.

Summary: This study conducted tests on impure salt rocks in China under thermal-hydro-mechanical coupling condition and found that the mechanical characteristics and gas tightness of the salt rock vary with confining pressure and temperature. The study also established empirical formulas and models to describe the permeability evolution of salt rock, which is important for the safety evaluation of salt caverns.

Mechanism of Rock Bursts Induced by the Synthetic Action of Roof Bending and Rock Pillar Prying in Subvertical Extra-Thick Coal Seams

Zhenhua Wu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the impact of roof-rock pillar combinations on rock bursts in subvertical extra-thick coal seams, highlighting phenomena such as microseismic concentration in both the roof and rock pillar, stress transfer causing differences in rock burst occurrence, and the dominant role of the roof in rock burst mechanisms. The study also discusses the role of high-energy events in inducing rock bursts, stress conditions provided by roof deformation extrusion and rock pillar prying, and the main causes of rock bursts in the studied coal seam.
