Pd-O2 interaction and singlet oxygen formation in a novel reactive electrochemical membrane for ultrafast sulfamethoxazole oxidation

Lehui Ren et al.

Summary: A novel reactive electrochemical membrane (REM) made of Pd-loaded porous Ti was prepared for ultrafast and efficient oxidation of trace antibiotics SMX. Singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) was identified as the main reactive species in the REM system, playing a crucial role in SMX degradation. The REM showed promising results in removing SMX from surface water, indicating its potential application in treating organic contaminants.

Fe/N-doped carbon magnetic nanocubes toward highly efficient selective decolorization of organic dyes under ultrasonic irradiation

Fencheng Yang et al.

Summary: Fe/N-doped carbon magnetic nanocubes (Fe/N-C MNCs) as a catalyst can synergistically enhance the degradation efficiency of organic dyes with ultrasonic irradiation, primarily through a non-radical pathway. Additionally, Fe/N-C MNCs predominantly produce singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) upon H2O2 activation, contributing to catalytic degradation instead of hydroxyl and/or superoxide anion radicals.

Intermediate accumulation and toxicity reduction during the selective photoelectrochemical process of atrazine in complex water bodies

Baoling Niu et al.

Summary: Selective removal of atrazine in wastewater was achieved by designing a new photoanode with strong catalytic and selective ability. The specific recognition mechanism relied on the formation of halogen bond and hydrogen bond, as well as the shape and size recognition. The correlation between intermediate degradation and toxicity was explored, showing that nearly 100% removal of aquatic toxicity and cytotoxicity can be achieved by removing highly toxic intermediates and accumulating non-toxic final product cyanuric acid.

Membrane-Confined Iron Oxychloride Nanocatalysts for Highly Efficient Heterogeneous Fenton Water Treatment

Shuo Zhang et al.

Summary: The study achieved the degradation of organic pollutants in complex water matrices by loading iron oxychloride catalysts into the pores of a ceramic ultrafiltration membrane. The membrane, with a pore size that excludes natural organic matter, selectively exposed smaller organics to hydroxyl radicals, effectively inhibiting the degradation of organic pollutants.

pySiRC: Machine Learning Combined with Molecular Fingerprints to Predict the Reaction Rate Constant of the Radical-Based Oxidation Processes of Aqueous Organic Contaminants

Flavio Olimpio Sanches-Neto et al.

Summary: A web application utilizing machine learning and molecular fingerprint algorithm was developed to calculate reaction rate constant of oxidative processes of organic pollutants in water. Three machine learning algorithms were evaluated, resulting in high goodness-of-fit for training set and good predictive capacity for test set. The model was able to interpret the reactivity of radicals based on the SHAP method.
