Continuous ultrasonic flow measurement for aerospace small pipelines

Yong Chen et al.

Summary: This study presents innovative propellant flow measurement technologies in microgravity conditions using ultrasonic-based measurements, which have advantages of non-invasive and fast response to bi-directional flow detection. The continuous ultrasonic wave propagation is proposed to match the requirements of large measurement range and high precision, with laboratory validations showing promising results for aerospace applications.

Broad bandwidth air-coupled micromachined ultrasonic transducers for gas sensing

P. Shanmugam et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop ultra-wide bandwidth air-coupled capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) for binary gas mixture analysis, based on time-of-flight (ToF) measurements to monitor gas ultrasound velocity variations. The proposed technique showed promising results in detecting CO2/N2 and H2/N2 gas mixtures, with a measured limit of detection (LOD) of 0.3% for CO2 in N2 and 0.15% for H2 in N2, demonstrating high detection sensitivity.

Numerical study on the effect of circumferential position of ultrasonic transducers on ultrasonic cross-correlation flowmeter performance under asymmetric air flow profile

Mohammad Amin Alaeddin et al.

Summary: Different ultrasonic flowmeter technologies have been studied under disturbed flow profiles, with focus on the cross-correlation type; asymmetrical velocity profiles can affect the accuracy and calibration factor of UCCF; CFD simulations showed that the circumferential position of transducers has an impact on the calibration factor of UCCF at different Reynolds numbers and flowmeter locations.
