Effects of deep cryogenic treatment on machinability, hardness and microstructure in dry turning process of tempered steels

Menderes Kam

Summary: This study investigated the effects of Deep Cryogenic Treatment (DCT) on machinability, hardness, and microstructure in dry turning process of AISI 4140 tempered steels. The experiments showed that the DCTT36 sample had the lowest Ra value and highest hardness values compared to other samples. The study suggested that lower Ra values can be achieved with ceramic cutting tools in dry turning experiments, making DCT a cost-effective alternative to cylindrical grinding.

Development and analysis of tool wear and energy consumption maps for turning of titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V)

Muhammad Younas et al.

Summary: Machine tools are the main source of electric power consumption in industrial operations. In order to mitigate production costs, energy-efficient and cleaner production methods are preferred in manufacturing. This research focuses on evaluating tool wear rate and specific cutting energy at varying cutting conditions for Titanium alloys, aiming to develop tool wear and energy maps for monitoring wear and energy data. The results suggest that recommended cutting conditions for machining Ti-6Al4V alloy can enhance tool life, reduce energy consumption, and increase material removal rate.
