Abrasive wear performance and wear map of ZrB2-MoSi2-SiCw composites

Tanay Rudra Paul et al.

Summary: The addition of SiCw decreases the coefficient of friction, specific wear rate, and surface roughness of ZrB2-MoSi2 composites, while enhancing wear resistance. The tribological performance of the composites is influenced by experimental conditions, with the damage tolerance limits varying for different applied loads. Wear mechanisms shift from delamination, cracking, and grain pull out at medium loads to grain boundary fracture at higher loads.

Insight of high-entropy alloy particles-reinforced 2219 Al matrix composites via the ultrasonic casting technology

Yun Zhang et al.

Summary: The introduction of high-entropy AlCoCrFeNi alloy particles into 2219 Al alloys via ultrasonic casting technology significantly reduced the average grain size of the aluminum matrix composites and improved their mechanical properties. An optimal addition of approximately 1.5 wt% of HEAps demonstrated the highest tensile strength and maximum micro-hardness, with various strengthening mechanisms contributing to the enhancement in yield strength.

Tribological performance and wear mechanisms of a high-temperature wear-resistant Al-Si/SiAlON composite

Hui Tan et al.

Summary: The SiAlON particle reinforced Al-20Si5Fe-2Ni alloy matrix composite exhibits outstanding wear resistance and high-temperature properties, primarily attributed to the addition of SiAlON ceramic leading to improved high-temperature hardness and the formation of a tribolayer on the worn surface.

Size Control of In Situ Synthesized TiB2 Particles in Molten Aluminum

Jie Yuan et al.

Summary: The study successfully synthesized TiB2 nanoparticles with a narrow size distribution in molten aluminum at high temperatures by controlling the reaction temperature, and also developed an interface diffusion-controlled model to reveal the size control mechanism. Temperature plays a crucial role in regulating the average size of synthesized nanoparticles, while the dilution of reactant salt is essential for maintaining a steady reaction environment.

Synthesis of nano- to micrometer-sized B4C particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composites via powder metallurgy and subsequent heat treatment

Liu Rui-feng et al.

Summary: B4C/6061Al composites reinforced with nano- to micrometer-sized B4C particles were fabricated via powder metallurgy route consisting of spark plasma sintering (SPS) and hot extrusion and rolling (HER), followed by T6 treatment. The microstructural evolution showed changes in the status of B4C particles, with significant improvements in the mechanical properties. Despite grain coarsening after T6 treatment, the composites still exhibited enhanced hardness and tensile strength.

Effect of hot extrusion on microstructure and tribological behavior of Al2O3p reinforced 7075 aluminum-matrix composites

Lei Yu-shun et al.

Summary: The optimal addition of 2 wt% Al2O3p and hot extrusion treatment lead to significant changes in the microstructure, hardness, and wear rate of 7075 composites. The reinforced wear resistance is attributed to the protective effect of the Al2O3p reinforced transition layer, which becomes stable after hot extrusion.

Influence of hot rolling on friction and wear behaviour of Al6061-ZrB2 in-situ metal matrix composites

R. Vasanth Kumar et al.

Summary: The Al6061 ZrB2 metal matrix composites prepared by stir-casting with in-situ reaction showed improved wear resistance and reduced friction coefficient after hot-rolling. The effects of different rolling directions on the friction and wear behavior of the composites were evaluated, with samples tested in the RD and 45D orientations showing the lowest coefficients of friction and wear rates.
