Deficiency of ITGAM Attenuates Experimental Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm in Mice

Min Zhou et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effect of CD11b on experimental abdominal aortic aneurysm and found that CD11b knockout reduced the diameter and inflammatory response of abdominal aortic aneurysm. In vitro experiments indicated that CD11b might mediate the endothelial cells adhesion and transendothelial migration of circulating monocytes/macrophages. Further analysis suggested that CD11b might promote the development and progression of abdominal aortic aneurysm by modulating the Akt pathway.

The Promiscuous Profile of Complement Receptor 3 in Ligand Binding, Immune Modulation, and Pathophysiology

Christina Lamers et al.

Summary: The beta(2)-integrin receptor family, particularly complement receptor 3 (CR3), plays a significant role in various physiological functions and has a wide range of ligand selectivity with close to 100 structurally unrelated ligands reported. CR3's versatility is reflected in its functions including removal of invaders and cell debris, tolerance induction, synaptic pruning, and involvement in autoimmune and chronic inflammatory pathologies. However, the limited molecular understanding of CR3's interactions with ligands hinders drug development efforts targeting immune modulation.

Renal Mononuclear Phagocytes in Lupus Nephritis

Anne Davidson

Summary: Renal mononuclear phagocytes play important roles in lupus nephritis, infiltrating the kidneys and correlating with disease severity and progression to end-stage renal disease. A better understanding of the diversity and functions of these cells in the disease could lead to the development of new therapeutic approaches.
