A fluorescence and localized surface plasmon resonance dual-readout sensing strategy for detection of acetamiprid and organophosphorus pesticides

Kan Wang et al.

Summary: In this work, a Fluorescence/LSPR dual-readout sensing system using DNA functionalized gold nanoparticles as nanoprobe was designed for the detection of acetamiprid and organophosphorus pesticides. The system showed high sensitivity and selectivity, with detection limits of 166.7 pg mL-1 for ACE and 0.17 fg mL-1 for OPs. Visual color changes were observed for indicating the content of ACE and OPs, offering a potential method for pesticides residues assay.

Farmers' behavior towards safe pesticide handling: An analysis with the theory of planned behavior

Asghar Bagheri et al.

Summary: Improper handling of pesticides by farmers in Ardabil Province, Iran poses significant risks to the environment and human health. By applying the theory of planned behavior, it was found that farmers' attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control all play a crucial role in shaping their intention and behavior towards safe pesticide use. The study showed that attitudes towards safe pesticide use had the highest mean score, while intention to use pesticides safely showed the lowest mean score among farmers. Attitudes and perceived behavioral control had a significant impact on intention, while subjective norms did not. Overall, these three constructs explained a high percentage of the variance in farmers' intention towards safe pesticide use.

Rapid selective optical detection of sulfur containing agrochemicals and amino acid by functionalized cyclodextrin polymer derived gold nanoprobes

Monika Yadav et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel cyclodextrin phthalate ester polymer was used to synthesize gold and silver nanoparticles for the rapid and accurate detection of sulfur-based pollutants in aqueous solutions. The gold nanoparticles selectively agglomerated upon interaction with cysteine and SDDC, allowing for visual readout. Detection and quantification of the compounds occurred within seconds due to the dual binding ability of cyclodextrin, with satisfactory limits of detection. The nanosensor demonstrated superior performance in detecting sulfur-containing compounds and can be potentially applied in environmental monitoring.
