Direct numerical simulation of hypersonic turbulent boundary layers: effect of spatial evolution and Reynolds number

Junji Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the spatial evolution of flat-plate zero-pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layers over long streamwise domains at high Mach numbers and cold-wall conditions using direct numerical simulations. The study monitors the settlement of turbulence statistics into a fully developed equilibrium state and characterizes the streamwise evolution of various important variables.

STREAmS: A high-fidelity accelerated solver for direct numerical simulation of compressible turbulent flows

Matteo Bernardini et al.

Summary: STREAmS is a high-fidelity solver for direct numerical simulations of canonical compressible wall-bounded flows. It incorporates state-of-the-art numerical algorithms designed for high-speed turbulent flows, can be used across a wide range of Mach numbers, and shows superior performance with good parallel efficiency, making it ideal for large-scale simulations.

Influence of free-stream turbulence on the aerodynamic performance of a three-dimensional airfoil

Rui Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of free-stream turbulence on flows past a static three-dimensional SD7003 airfoil was investigated using wall-resolved Large-Eddy Simulation. It was found that higher turbulence intensity in the approaching flow may lead to variations in effective angles of attack, causing delays in flow development and promoting diversity in flow classifications. Additionally, the integral length scale was shown to have significant and systematic impacts on turbulent fluctuations in the boundary layer, with larger scales resulting in higher turbulence intensities and larger separations at all angles of attack.
