Collection of polymer bubble as a nanoscale membrane

Man-Yu Qian et al.

Summary: A novel bubble spinning process was designed to produce nanoscale artificial membranes. By enlarging the bubble size, the thickness of the bubble wall can be reduced to several tens of nanometers, resulting in the formation of nanoscale membranes from the fragments of broken bubbles. This process demonstrates great potential for biomimetic fabrication of nanoscale membranes.

An insight into mechanical & thermal properties of shape memory polymer reinforced with nanofillers; a critical review

Somalika Pradhan et al.

Summary: The advent of smart materials has opened up new opportunities for various applications in engineering and technology. Shape memory polymers (SMPs) are a type of smart material that can return to their original shape from a deformed shape induced by an external stimulus. However, SMPs in their neat form exhibit poor mechanical and thermal properties, which hinder their applications in engineering. Researchers have attempted to enhance the mechanical and thermal properties of SMPs by reinforcing them with nanofillers, such as tensile strength, hardness, and thermal conductivity, which further affect other properties.

Insights into Partial Slips and Temperature Jumps of a Nanofluid Flow over a Stretched or Shrinking Surface

Ji-Huan He et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of partial slip and temperature jump on heat and mass transfer of a nanofluid passing through a stretched or shrinking surface. Numerical analysis reveals that changes in slip parameters lead to different solutions for temperature and concentration functions, which are crucial for studying heat transfer and mass transfer processes.

Improvement in mechanical, electrical, and shape memory properties of the polystyrene-based carbon fiber-reinforced polymer composites containing carbon nanotubes

Berrak Erkmen et al.

Summary: In this study, carbon fiber-reinforced polymers based on a polystyrene matrix with elastomer and carbon nanotubes were produced through compression molding. The effects of carbon fabric concentration and silane treatment on the morphology, mechanical, electrical, and shape memory properties of the multilayer composites were investigated. The results showed significant improvements in tensile strength and modulus with increasing CF plies, as well as enhanced shape recovery speed and electrical conductivity in the semiconductor region.

Summary: Over the past 10 years, additive manufacturing (AM) has been applied to various fields, with a recent surge of interest in smart material fabrication using FDM. Research focus lies in processing conditions and properties of components, with applications ranging from planar structures to sensitive components. More efforts are needed in smart polymer feedstock synthesis, process simulation, tuning of FDM process, and standardization of tests for characterization.
