Stability of Octadecyltrimethoxysilane-Based Coatings on Aluminum Alloy Surface

Alexey Y. Zhizhchenko et al.

Summary: This study investigated the long-term stability of organosilane layers formed on polished aluminum alloy in contact with water. The results showed that the prepared organosilane layer gradually hydrolyzed over time, allowing water to interact with the underlying layer and causing a decrease in hydrophobicity. Additionally, local electrochemical corrosion was observed in the one-layer samples after immersion in water.

Influence of roughness on polar and dispersed components of surface free energy and wettability properties of copper and steel surfaces

G. Kuznetsov et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of hardware abrasive processing on the texture, surface free energy, and wettability of copper and steel surfaces. It was found that the use of abrasive material with an average grit size of up to 100 mu m can significantly change surface roughness and modify the polar component in the surface free energy. The study demonstrates that abrasive processing directly influences wettability properties and allows for a wide range of contact angles to be achieved on both copper and steel surfaces.
