Three Extensions of the Random Intercept Cross-Lagged Panel Model

Jeroen D. Mulder et al.

Summary: The random intercept cross-lagged panel model is a popular structural equation modeling approach for longitudinal data in psychology and related fields. This paper discusses three extensions of the RI-CLPM, including how to include stable individual characteristics, specify a multiple-group version, and incorporate multiple indicators, as well as how to run models to investigate underlying assumptions. A motivating example is provided to demonstrate various modeling options, along with fully annotated code for lavaan(R-package) and Mplus on an accompanying website.

Testing Prospective Effects in Longitudinal Research: Comparing Seven Competing Cross-Lagged Models

Ulrich Orth et al.

Summary: The study compared the performance of seven competing longitudinal models in examining the association between low self-esteem and depression in ten samples. The traditional CLPM and the random intercepts cross-lagged panel model (RI-CLPM) showed better convergence and model fit, but exhibited differences in cross-lagged effects.

On the Differences between General Cross-Lagged Panel Model and Random-Intercept Cross-Lagged Panel Model: Interpretation of Cross-Lagged Parameters and Model Choice

Satoshi Usami

Summary: This article discusses how common factors and cross-lagged parameters in the general cross-lagged panel model (GCLM) and random-intercept CLPM (RI-CLPM) can be interpreted, and highlights the differences in interpretative approaches between the two models.
