Strengthen metal-oxygen covalency of CoFe-layered double hydroxide for efficient mild oxygen evolution

Dazhong Zhong et al.

Summary: This paper introduces partially oxidized CoFe-OH with enhanced covalency of M-O bonds as an efficient electrocatalyst for OER in neutral electrolyte. The enhanced M-O covalency shifts the OER mechanism to lattice oxygen oxidation mechanism in PO-CoFe-OH, promoting rate-limiting deprotonation and providing superior OER performance. It only requires overpotentials of 186 and 365 mV to achieve current density densities of 1 and 10 mA.cm(-2) in 0.1 M KHCO3 aqueous solution (pH = 8.3), showing a new approach for designing efficient catalysts for water oxidation in mild conditions.

Electrochemical deposition of amorphous cobalt oxides for oxygen evolution catalysis

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: This paper presents an electrochemical deposition method to obtain cobalt oxides with controllable crystallinity on carbon paper. The study investigates the influence of the crystallinity of cobalt oxides on the activity of the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The results show that cobalt oxides in an amorphous state exhibited higher catalytic activity and better stability compared to those in a crystalline state.

A′-B Intersite Cooperation-Enhanced Water Splitting in Quadruple Perovskite Oxide CaCu3Ir4O12

Xubin Ye et al.

Summary: The quadruple perovskite oxide CaCu3Ir4O12 exhibits stable and superior electrochemical activity in alkaline solution, with the B-site Ir identified as the active site for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The A'-B intersite cooperation synergistically enhances OER activity, regardless of the inactive A'-site Cu. The structural constitution of CaCu3Ir4O12, including a small Cu-O-Ir bond angle and strong 3d-5d orbital hybridizations, promotes orbital overlap and charge transfer, leading to its superior OER activity.

Effects of zinc ions at tetrahedral sites in spinel oxides on catalytic activity for oxygen evolution reaction

Wei Liu et al.

Summary: The study explored the effects of tetrahedral ions on OER catalysis in spinel oxides, finding that Zn0.4Co2.6O4 exhibited the highest OER activity due to the moderate amount of cation defects on the surface caused by Zn2+ dissolution. Excessive Zn2+ ions, however, led to an unstable surface structure.

Recent Development of Oxygen Evolution Electrocatalysts in Acidic Environment

Li An et al.

Summary: The review focuses on understanding the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) mechanisms in acid, analyzing strategies to enhance activity and stability, and summarizing state-of-the-art catalysts for OER. Prevailing OER mechanisms are reviewed for designing efficient electrocatalysts, approaches to improve activity are discussed, and factors affecting catalyst stability are analyzed. Noble-metal-based OER catalysts and non-noble-metal-based catalysts progress are reviewed, and challenges and perspectives for developing active and robust OER catalysts in acid are discussed.

CaMn7O12 Quadruple Perovskite Oxides Proceed by Two-Active-Site Reaction Mechanism for the Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Yadan Ren et al.

Summary: The study suggests that in quadruple perovskite oxides, the catalytic activity of the oxygen evolution reaction can be adjusted by controlling the distance of transition metals. The OER catalytic activity is closely related to the distance of Mn(A')-Mn(B), and a shorter A'-B distance can accelerate OER kinetics.
