Summary: Most volcanic activity occurs in remote areas, making our monitoring capacity limited. This study presents a method based on seismic analysis to rapidly identify and estimate key parameters of large volcanic eruptions. The analysis of the Hunga Tonga Ha'apai eruption indicates that it is among the largest recorded volcanic activity and provides new insights into the physics of large eruptions.

Summary: On 15 January 2022, the eruption of the Hunga-Tonga volcano in the South Pacific Ocean resulted in a violent underwater explosion, causing tsunami waves and atmospheric pressure disturbances. Numerical simulation shows an excellent agreement between the simulated wave arrival time and observations.

Summary: The eruption of the Hunga volcano in Tonga on 15 January 2022 caused an explosion in the atmosphere, generating a range of atmospheric waves that were observed globally. The eruption produced significant infrasound, audible sound, and ionospheric perturbations, and contributed to the occurrence of tsunamis. The exceptional observations of the atmospheric waves are highlighted in this study.

Summary: On January 15, 2022, the explosive eruption of the Hunga volcano in Tonga recorded the most powerful blast in the last century, estimated to have an equivalent TNT yield of 100-200 megatons. The blast energy was transmitted through different atmospheric waves, including a long-period surface-guided Lamb wave, internal gravity, acoustic-gravity, and infrasound waves. Infrasound waves were observed circumnavigating the Earth up to eight times, providing insights into the Earth's impulse response at planetary scales.

Summary: The massive eruption of the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai volcano in Tonga on January 15, 2022 triggered a trans-oceanic tsunami that affected coastlines around the world. This article focuses on the effects of the tsunami on the Mexican Pacific Coast, Gulf of Mexico, and Mexican Caribbean coast, and highlights the importance of early tsunami warning systems in mitigating the risks associated with volcanic explosions.

Summary: The evolution of the fireball resulting from the August 2020 Beirut explosion was traced using amateur videos taken during the first 400 ms after the detonation. The study found that the fireball followed the Sedov-Taylor model with almost instantaneous energy release. The research suggests that the actual mass of ammonium nitrate involved in the explosion is much less than officially claimed.

Summary: The study utilized various techniques to analyze publicly available data to investigate the massive explosion in Beirut, Lebanon, on August 4, 2020. By combining data from seismological, hydroacoustic, infrasonic, and radar remote sensing sources, the researchers were able to characterize the explosion's source and estimate its explosive yield, which ranged from 0.13 to 2 kilotons of TNT. The approach presented in the study, based on open accessible global station networks and satellite missions, has high scientific and social relevance and can be applied to other explosion events.
