Effective inspissation of uranium(VI) from radioactive wastewater using flow electrode capacitive deionization

Jian Zhou et al.

Summary: The effectiveness of flow electrode capacitive deionization (FCDI) as a method to concentrate radioactive wastewater has been assessed for the first time in this study. The results showed that uranium (U) can accumulate into the electrolyte and on activated carbon in the flow electrode, with a removal efficiency of over 99% during each cycle. Analysis of XPS revealed the migration route and valence change of U in the flow electrode, explaining its high adsorption capacity in FCDI. Long-term experiments demonstrated that the low concentration feed water could be concentrated by 47 times, achieving a final concentration of 2843 mg L-1 U. Under optimized conditions, FCDI achieved a charge efficiency of 86% and a low energy consumption of 2.03 mg J(-1). Overall, FCDI shows promise as a method for treating radioactive wastewater, with high removal rate, excellent concentration effect, and low energy consumption.

In-situ immobilization of ZIF-67 on wood aerogel for effective removal of tetracycline from water

Guanyu Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a composite adsorbent material, ZIF-67@WA, was successfully fabricated by anchoring ZIF-67 rhombic dodecahedron on wood aerogel to improve the practical application of MOF materials in pollutant removal from wastewater. The composite showed excellent tetracycline adsorption capacity, comparable to previously reported adsorbents, and could be recycled multiple times with minimal secondary contamination. The study suggests that ZIF-67@WA has the potential to effectively remove tetracycline from water due to its superior adsorption performance, compressibility, light weight, and facile separation.
