Evolution of nickel species in reactive adsorption desulfurization of benzothiophene

Yao Sun et al.

Summary: This study examines the evolution of nickel species, especially NiSx, on NiO/ZnO-Al2O3-SiO2 and NiSO4/ZnO-Al2O3-SiO2 adsorbents for reactive adsorption desulfurization (RADS). The results show that both adsorbents have high desulfurization efficiency, but differences in activation mechanisms were observed. NiO adsorbent adsorbs and breaks the C-S bond to form NiSx, while NiSO4 adsorbent self-sulfides to NiSx.

Biologically produced sulfur as a novel adsorbent to remove Cd2+from aqueous solutions

Hyuck Soo Kim et al.

Summary: Biological desulfurization processes of landfill gas produce a large amount of biologically produced S (BPS) as a byproduct, which has been shown to effectively remove Cd2+ from aqueous solutions with a higher adsorption capacity compared to granular activated carbon (GAC). The kinetics of Cd2+ removal by BPS is a two-stage process, with favorable and endothermic thermodynamic parameters. Results indicate that BPS can be recycled as a novel adsorbent for Cd2+ removal from wastewater.
