Surface modification of core-shell structured ZIF-67@Cobalt coordination compound to improve the fire safety of biomass aerogel insulation materials

Jie Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, biomass aerogel was prepared using a freeze-drying method and a novel core-shell flame retardant was successfully synthesized to significantly improve the fire safety performance of the aerogel. The addition of the new flame retardant not only enhanced the compressive strength of the aerogel without affecting its thermal insulation performance, but also reduced the peak heat release rate, peak smoke production rate, and total smoke production. This work provides a promising approach for the fabrication of aerogel insulation materials using green and economical additive-free technology.

Strong adsorption properties and mechanism of action with regard to tetracycline adsorption of double-network polyvinyl alcohol-copper alginate gel beads

Quan Liao et al.

Summary: Glutaraldehyde was used as a hydrophobic modifier to crosslink polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), while copper ions were immobilized by sodium alginate (SA) in this study. The resulting PVA-CA gel beads demonstrated high adsorption capacity for tetracycline (TC) in aqueous solutions, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 231.431 mg/g under optimal conditions. The adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isothermal models, and was found to be spontaneous and endothermic. Additionally, cation bonding bridge reactions were identified as the main driving force behind the adsorption mechanism.
