Experimental studies on CO2 absorption and solvent recovery in aqueous blends of monoethanolamine and tetrabutylammonium hydroxide

Muthumari Perumal et al.

Summary: In this study, the post-combustion CO2 capture process using solvent-based chemical absorption with MEA and IL blends was investigated. By varying the compositions of MEA and [TBA][OH], it was found that the mixture of 20 wt% MEA + 10 wt% [TBA][OH] exhibited the highest absorption/desorption rate and regeneration efficiency. The regeneration energy for this mixture was calculated to be 28.6 kJ/mol of CO2, which is 32% less than that of the baseline 30 wt% MEA. Additionally, the physicochemical properties such as density, viscosity, and surface tension for all the solvent blends were experimentally studied.
