Role of sulfide-modified nanoscale zero-valent iron on carbon nanotubes in nonradical activation of peroxydisulfate

Libin Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, sulfide-modified nanoscale zero-valent iron on carbon nanotubes was prepared for the degradation of sulfamethoxazole. Singlet oxygen was identified as the main active species, and sulfur doping transitioned the activation pathway to a nonradical pathway. Different transformation pathways were proposed for the degradation of sulfamethoxazole in the S-nZVI@CNTs/PDS system, highlighting its potential as a sustainable and effective treatment for antibiotic wastewater.

Activation of peroxydisulfate by magnetically separable rGO/MnFe2O4 toward oxidation of tetracycline: Efficiency, mechanism and degradation pathways

Xiaoyan Meng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the catalytic performance of a novel composite material rGO/MnFe2O4 for the removal of the widely used antibiotic tetracycline (TC). It was found that rGO/MnFe2O4 exhibited higher catalytic activity compared to MnFe2O4 alone. The effects of PDS dose, temperature, initial pH, inorganic anions, and humic acid on TC removal were also studied. The results revealed that both radical and non-radical oxidation processes contributed to the degradation of TC in the rGO/MnFe2O4-PDS system. The decontamination efficacy of natural water samples spiked with TC was also evaluated.

Insights into enhanced peroxydisulfate activation with S doped Fe@C catalyst for the rapid degradation of organic pollutants

Zhendong Yu et al.

Summary: The S modified iron-based catalyst (S-Fe@C) was fabricated by heating the S-MIL-101 (Fe) precursor at 800 degrees C, showing higher performance in activating peroxydisulfate (PDS) and degrading various organic pollutants rapidly. The enhancement of PDS activation by the S element mainly involved two mechanisms, speeding up electron transfer efficiency and achieving the circulation of Fe2+ and Fe3+ to form non-radicals Fe(IV) and O-1(2).

The analysis of efficiency of activated peroxymonosulfate for fenuron degradation in water

Waseem Hayat et al.

Summary: This study focused on the degradation of fenuron in aqueous solutions using a manganese dioxide-peroxymonosulfate system. It compared the performance of different types of manganese dioxide, namely commercial (c)MnO2, beta (b)MnO2, and alpha (a)MnO2, in combination with peroxymonosulfate. The results showed that the aMnO2-PMS system had the highest degradation efficiency for fenuron, followed by the bMnO2-PMS system and cMnO2-PMS system. The study also explored the factors affecting the degradation, including PMS and fenuron concentrations, MnO2 dosage, pH, and temperature. The findings suggest that the activated PMS system is not ideal for efficient degradation of fenuron from aqueous solutions.

Effect of inorganic anions on the performance of advanced oxidation processes for degradation of organic contaminants

Jianlong Wang et al.

Summary: Inorganic anions such as chloride, carbonate, phosphate, sulfate, and nitrate have a significant impact on the performance of Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs). This influence is not solely attributed to their quenching effect, but also affects reactive species, oxidant stability, catalyst activity, and degradation products. Understanding the comprehensive evaluation of the effect of inorganic anions on AOPs is crucial for optimizing the treatment of organic pollutants.

Bamboo-like N-doped carbon nanotube-confined cobalt as an efficient and robust catalyst for activating monopersulfate to degrade bisphenol A

Ha Trang Nguyen et al.

Summary: Researchers have proposed a unique Co-based catalyst by utilizing tubular-structured N-doped carbon substrates derived from dicyandiamide to confine Co nanoparticles, forming N-doped carbon nanotubes (CNT) with bamboo-like morphology. This CoCNT catalyst exhibits significantly higher catalytic activities than Co3O4 for activating monopersulfate (MNP) to degrade BPA.
