Adsorption and desorption equilibrium of Li4SiO4-based sorbents for high-temperature CO2 capture

Shuzhen Chen et al.

Summary: Research indicates that the equilibrium temperature for CO2 adsorption/desorption of Li4SiO4-based sorbents at high temperatures is higher than theoretical values, with silicon precursors and Ce/Fe dopants having minimal effects on equilibrium. Sorbents with K/Na exhibit significant drops in equilibrium temperature at 0.5 atm of CO2, and higher K doping results in lower turnover temperatures.

Na2CO3 promoted CaO-based heat carrier for thermochemical energy storage in concentrated solar power plants

Yongqing Xu et al.

Summary: This study proposes a novel Na2CO3 modification method to enhance the energy storage density (ESD) of CaO-based materials in a closed-loop CaL-TCES system. The results show that the 10Na(2)CO(3)/CaO exhibits a higher ESD over the cycles, despite sintering. Furthermore, Na2CO3 improves reaction kinetics and may break through mass transfer barriers to absorb CO2.

On the factors affecting the deactivation of limestone under calcium looping conditions: A new comprehensive model

Athanasios A. Scaltsoyiannes et al.

Summary: Calcium looping is a promising approach for CO2 capture and energy storage challenges. Despite the deactivation of limestone, it is still considered a major sorbent material due to its availability and cost. The study investigates the activity loss of limestone under calcium looping conditions and proposes a comprehensive model. Structural changes during cycling greatly enhance the loss of activity, while CaO sintering affects porosity and CaCO3 sintering does not impact material deactivation.

Understanding sulfation effect on the kinetics of carbonation reaction in calcium looping for CO2 capture

Susu Chen et al.

Summary: Calcium looping is an effective technology for capturing CO2 from fossil fuel power plant emissions, but the presence of SO2 can lead to sulfation reactions during carbonation, impacting sorption performance and carbonation kinetics. Sulfation results in lower reaction rates and higher activation energies, affecting the overall efficiency of the process.

Sawdust wastes-derived porous carbons for CO2 adsorption. Part 1. Optimization preparation via orthogonal experiment

Chen Jin et al.

Summary: Sawdust wastes were successfully used to prepare porous carbons with high specific surface area and micropore volume by optimizing the preparation parameters. The porous carbons derived from sawdust wastes exhibited excellent CO2 adsorption capacity, with activation temperature and KOH/sawdust ratio identified as key factors influencing their porous texture properties. However, the extrusion treatment and binder addition led to decreased CO2 adsorption capacity in the porous carbon extrudates.

CO2 capture activity of a novel CaO adsorbent stabilized with (ZrO2+Al2O3+CeO2)-based additive under mild and realistic calcium looping conditions

Mohammad Heidari et al.

Summary: The study focused on developing a novel synthetic adsorbent using the sol-gel autocombustion method, incorporating ZrO2, Al2O3, and CeO2 during the development of CaO adsorbent. The research found that the adsorbent with a molar ratio of 20/1 of calcium precursor to promoters showed the best performance, with the highest sorption capacity and CaO conversion rate. Additionally, the cyclic performance of modified adsorbents was found to be directly proportional to their morphological properties, with CN/20 demonstrating the best overall performance in capturing CO2.

Study on the effect of NaBr modification on CaO-based sorbent for CO2 capture and SO2 capture

Yongqing Xu et al.

Summary: The calcium looping process is a promising technology for capturing CO2, but the decay of CaO-based sorbent due to sintering and SO2 poisoning is a major obstacle. This study shows that NaBr modification enhances the cyclic CO2 capture capacity of CaO-based sorbents, and the effect of SO2 on this capacity was well studied. The modification not only enhanced SO2 capture capacity, but also improved cyclic CO2 capture capacity, making it a promising strategy for boosting CO2 capture in the calcium looping process.
