A computational study of a chemical gas sensor utilizing Pd-rGO composite on SnO2 thin film for the detection of NOx

S. Akshya et al.

Summary: In this paper, nitrogen oxide gas sensors were designed and simulated using COMSOL Multiphysics software, and the investigation of Pd-rGO composite films on NOx sensing characteristics led to improved response at low temperatures. Optimizing the response to NOx with different active layers, specifically with the integration of Pd/rGO into SnO2 thin film, showed better performance in detecting nitrogen oxides in proportion to power. This advanced research paves the way for constructing portable NOx gas sensors with millimeter size and microwatt power.

Performance degradation mechanism of the light-activated room temperature NO2 gas sensor based on Ag-ZnO nanoparticles

Qiuping Zhang et al.

Summary: The chemiresistor-type sensors based on Ag-ZnO nanostructures exhibit excellent sensing properties to NO2 under visible light, but the performance degrades after long-term operation. This degradation is attributed to decreased crystal quality, increased oxygen vacancy defects, and oxidization of Ag-0 to Ag+ on ZnO surfaces. These factors lead to higher free charge carrier concentration in the dark and reduced photogenerated charge carrier concentration under light, resulting in decreased photoconductivity.

Chao Wang et al.

Summary: The synthesized Co3O4-ZnO/rGO ternary composite displayed superior sensing abilities towards benzaldehyde in both gas and liquid phases, with enhanced response and faster response/recovery compared to individual and binary ZnO-based systems. This was attributed to the oriented growth and hexagonal morphology of ZnO, the p-n effects of Co3O4-ZnO on rGO sheets, and the excellent characteristics of rGO sheets.
