Stabilized Ultra-High-Temperature Sensors Based on Inert Gas-Sealed Sapphire Fiber Bragg Gratings

Jia He et al.

Summary: This paper reports the development of a thermally stabilized ultra-high-temperature sensor based on a femtosecond laser-inscribed sapphire fiber Bragg grating (SFBG), inert gas-sealed packaging, and gradient temperature-elevated annealing. The results show that the use of inert gas-sealed packaging effectively insulates the sapphire fiber from the ambient air, and the gradient temperature-elevated annealing process successfully suppresses the formation of micro-etched lines, significantly improving the surface topography of the SFBG. The sensor exhibits long-term thermal stability, with stable operation at 1600 degrees C for up to 20 hours and the ability to withstand even higher temperatures of 1800 degrees C with high sensitivity (41.2 pm/degrees C).

Optical temperature sensing characteristics of Sm3+doped YAG single crystal fiber based on luminescence emission

Kesong Zhu et al.

Summary: A series of YAG: x mol%Sm3+ single crystal materials were synthesized and the down-conversion luminescence properties were studied, with 0.5 mol% determined as the optimal doping concentration. An integrated YAG single crystal fiber doped with Sm3+ was fabricated and its optical temperature sensing characteristics were investigated using fluorescence intensity ratio technique. The results showed promising high-temperature sensing capabilities of YAG: Sm3+ SC material, with temperature measurement range extended to 1178 K and excellent sensitivity values.

Distributed temperature profile in hydrogen flame measured by telecom fiber and its durability under flame by OFDR

Chen Chen et al.

Summary: The distributed temperature profile of a hydrogen flame was experimentally demonstrated for the first time using optical frequency-domain reflectometry (OFDR). The monitoring was done through a telecom fiber inside the flame, and the highest temperature was found to be on the sides of the center flame. The uniformity of temperature was studied by varying the distance between the fiber and tube entrance, and the largest uniform region was obtained. The durability of single-mode fiber under the flame was also investigated. The findings have important implications for high-temperature measurement using telecom fiber and OFDR.

High-sensitivity high-temperature sensor based on multi-microspheres improved Michelson interferometer

Yang Han et al.

Summary: Two high-sensitivity high-temperature sensors based on in-line Michelson interferometers with an array of microspheres were experimentally demonstrated using a simple fusion splicing technique. The sensors exhibit the highest temperature sensitivity of 0.139 nm/degrees C and 0.166 nm/degrees C, respectively, within the temperature range of 100 degrees C to 800 degrees C. Increasing the number of microspheres has been shown to improve temperature sensitivity and reduce sensor size, offering a new approach to enhancing the performance of high-temperature fiber-optic sensors.

Correlation-Like Demodulation of Fiber Fabry-Perot Sensor Based on Blackbody Radiation Light Source

Yuru Chen et al.

Summary: Blackbody radiation serves as the light source for the fiber Fabry-Perot sensor system, leading to difficult demodulation of the output signal due to low signal-to-noise ratio. However, utilizing a correlation-like algorithm can accurately demodulate the signal, with higher demodulation accuracy achieved at temperatures equal to or above 800 degrees Celsius. Temperature has a significant impact on the accuracy of demodulation in this system.

Jun He et al.

Summary: Single-mode helical Bragg grating waveguides (HBGWs) were fabricated in a multimode coreless fiber using a femtosecond laser direct writing technique. The unique helical structure serves as a depressed cladding waveguide and generates strong Bragg resonance. By controlling parameters, single-mode HBGWs with narrow bandwidth and specific Bragg wavelength were achieved, along with studies on temperature and strain responses.
