Review of the algorithms used in exhaled breath analysis for the detection of diabetes

Anna Paleczek et al.

Summary: Currently, intensive research is being conducted on the development of truly noninvasive medical diagnostic systems, including respiratory analysers based on the detection of biomarkers for various diseases like diabetes. Selective detection of diabetes biomarkers in exhaled breath is crucial, with algorithms trained to detect diabetes achieving over 90% accuracy in most cases.Various measurement systems, feature extraction methods, and algorithms such as support vector machines are being used to detect diabetes in patient samples and simulated artificial breath samples.

Continuously improved gas-sensing performance of Zn2SnO4 porous octahedrons by structure evolution and further ZnSnO3 nanosheets decoration

Zhengdao Li et al.

Summary: Optimizing the structure and composition of metal oxide semiconductors is an effective approach to improve gas-sensing performance. This study successfully enhanced the detection properties of a gas sensor for triethylamine by optimizing the structure and composition of the sensor material. By converting solid Zn2SnO4 octahedrons into hollow structures with preserved shape and growing ZnSnO3 nanosheets on the surface, a hierarchical ZnSnO3/Zn2SnO4 composite with a porous structure was designed and prepared. The sensor based on this composite exhibited superior sensing properties, including lower optimal working temperature, higher sensitivity, wider linear response range, and faster response/recovery speed. The improved sensing mechanism based on the structural and compositional evolution of the sensor material was discussed in detail.

Single Nanowire Gas Sensor Able to Distinguish Fish and Meat and Evaluate Their Degree of Freshness

Matteo Tonezzer

Summary: In this study, a non-invasive, small, and fast device composed of a single semiconductor nanowire resistive sensor was used to monitor food freshness at different temperatures. The sensor, sensitive to ammonia and total volatile basic nitrogen, could distinguish between samples of fish and meat based on their freshness levels with high accuracy.

Flexible Impedimetric Electronic Nose for High-Accurate Determination of Individual Volatile Organic Compounds by Tuning the Graphene Sensitive Properties

Tianqi Lu et al.

Summary: The research investigated the use of functionalized graphene materials to create highly sensitive sensors for volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The electronic nose composed of two different types of graphene films demonstrated variable sensitivity to specific VOCs, with high selectivity and identification accuracy. The sensors showed significant cross-selectivity to different VOCs, allowing for selective detection of multiple VOCs.
