In-line reflected fiber sensor for simultaneous measurement of temperature and liquid level based on tapered few-mode fiber

Yichun Li et al.

Summary: This work proposes an in-line reflective dual-parameters fiber-optic sensor, which is experimentally verified for simultaneous measurement of liquid level and local temperature distribution. The sensor configuration consists of a single-mode fiber, a tapered few-mode fiber, and a silver-coated capillary tube. The experimental results show that the liquid level affects only the power of the resonant dips, while the temperature change affects both the wavelength and the power of the resonant dips. Therefore, the liquid level and temperature can be simultaneously measured based on the different responses of the resonant dips. The sensor exhibits high stability and low cost, with only one wavelength required for demodulation, which reduces the scanning wavelength range during measurement. The proposed sensor has potential applications where accurate and simultaneous measurements of temperature and liquid level are needed.
