The multicellular interplay of microglia in health and disease: lessons from leukodystrophy

Woutje M. Berdowski et al.

Summary: Microglia play a crucial role in brain function and health, particularly in white matter disorders. Research suggests that aberrant microglia can lead to white matter defects and brain dysfunction through various mechanisms, highlighting the importance of understanding their impact for developing new therapeutic options.

Classifying etiology of infantile spasms syndrome in resource-limited settings: A study from the South Asian region

Jithangi Wanigasinghe et al.

Summary: The study discovered a lack of resources in the South Asian region for investigating the etiology of ISS. Many pediatric neurologists attempted to classify the etiology of ISS based on the classification outlined by the International League Against Epilepsy in 2017, but facilities for metabolic, genetic, and immunological investigations were very limited. Lack of funding and poor laboratory support were identified as major barriers. Most suggested a separate classification for low-income settings or inclusion of the incompletely investigated etiological subcategory as a solution.
