Preparation of high-temperature active zirconium boride powders via precursor route and microwave sintering

Zhihui Ding et al.

Summary: ZrB2 powders of high purity were successfully synthesised using microwave heating at 1400 degrees C, with a temperature 300 degrees C lower than traditional methods. The study investigated the effects of raw material ratios and synthesis temperature on powder synthesis, and found temperature to have a significant impact on the purity of the synthesised zirconium boride.

Rapid transformation from Cs-geopolymers to Cs-defined ceramics by microwave sintering

Yi Xiang et al.

Summary: A process involving low-temperature solidification and rapid microwave sintering was proposed to treat simulated nuclide 137Cs, resulting in the formation of Cs-defined ceramics with high chemical durability. The ceramics showed low leaching rates of Cs+, indicating effective containment of Cs within the ceramic lattice.

Real-time visualization of particle evolution during reactive flux-assisted processing of aluminum melts

C. W. Reese et al.

Summary: A multi-modal, multi-scale correlative tomography investigation of Al-TiC metal matrix composites processed via flux-assisted reaction synthesis reveals nucleation-dominated process and rapid reaction at 950 degrees C. Formation of carbide particles with hexagonal platelet morphology is observed, potentially influenced by Si impurities. The study suggests that correlative tomography workflow and analysis may guide future metal matrix composite processing strategies.
