Planning for the health impacts of climate change: Flooding, private groundwater contamination and waterborne infection - A cross-sectional study of risk perception, experience and behaviours in the Republic of Ireland

Arianna Musacchio et al.

Summary: The study in Ireland found that private well users have limited capacity to cope with flood-triggered contamination risks and adopt proactive attitudes. There is a general lack of preparedness to deal with flood-related contamination risks, with many respondents failing to adopt protective actions, especially rural non-agricultural residents. Perception of risk, personal norms, and social norms are important predictors of protective behaviour adoption and should be considered in future awareness campaigns.
