Dynamic aeolian erosion evaluation and ecological service assessment in Inner Mongolia, northern China

Yujie Dai et al.

Summary: By using the Revised Wind Erosion Equation, this study evaluated the aeolian erosion modulus in Inner Mongolia at a regional scale. The findings revealed the influence of wind force and topography on erosion intensity, as well as the variation in soil conservation and desertification. The research provides valuable insights for decision-making in sustainable development and soil conservation efforts at regional scales.

Source tracing of potentially toxic elements in soils around a typical coking plant in an industrial area in northern China

Jian Hu et al.

Summary: This study found that the concentration of mercury inside the coking plant and cadmium in the agricultural land around the plant were relatively high. The main sources of lead in the soil inside and outside the coking plant were found to be coal combustion. Pollution emission sources with significant influence on the soil outside the coking plant were diesel vehicles, gas tanks, and coke ovens. Inside the plant, pollution sources included quenching sections, atmospheric deposition, coke oven sections, and diesel vehicles.

Factors of ecosystem service values in a fast-developing region in China: Insights from the joint impacts of human activities and natural conditions

Zhitao Liu et al.

Summary: This study conducted a comprehensive analysis on the spatiotemporal variation of ecosystem service value (ESV) and the combined effects of influencing factors in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) from 2000 to 2015. The total ESV in the GBA decreased, with regulating service suffering the most damage and a spatial distribution of ESV showing an outer high and inner low circle structure. Different combinations of factors had varying impacts on ecosystem services, with findings providing new insights on the influencing mechanisms of ESV.

Modeling the response of ecological service value to land use change through deep learning simulation in Lanzhou, China

Jiamin Liu et al.

Summary: The study simulated LU changes in Lanzhou city under different scenarios in 2030 using a novel deep learning method. The results showed that the trend of ESV in arid areas differs from that in humid coastal areas, with forest land and water being the main factors affecting ESV change. The EPD scenario was found to be more suitable for sustainable urban development.

Factors influencing ecosystem services in the Pearl River Delta, China: Spatiotemporal differentiation and varying importance

Shaojian Wang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the varying importance and spatiotemporal differentiation of factors influencing ecosystem services in China's Pearl River Delta from 2000 to 2015 using the random forest model and a geographically and temporally weighted regression model. The results showed an increase in the importance of human factors, a decrease in natural factors, and significant spatiotemporal differentiation in the influencing factors. These findings can guide decision makers in ecological management and policy making.

Coupling Analysis of Ecosystem Services Value and Economic Development in the Yangtze River Economic Belt: A Case Study in Hunan Province, China

Wanxu Chen et al.

Summary: Healthy ecosystems are crucial for the sustainable survival and development of human society, but ecological deterioration caused by socioeconomic activities can put pressure on ecosystems. This study focused on spatial interaction between ecosystem services value (ESV) and economic development in Hunan Province from 2000 to 2018. The analysis revealed trends in ESV and its relationship with economic development, providing insights for coordinated regional economic development and ecosystem conservation.

Assessment of Ecosystem Service Value and Its Differences in the Yellow River Basin and Yangtze River Basin

Chunsheng Wu et al.

Summary: The Yellow River Basin and the Yangtze River Basin are two important watersheds in China with different ecosystem patterns. The ecosystem services values of the two basins have similar spatial distributions, with the Yangtze River Basin having a total annual value three times higher than that of the Yellow River Basin. This research provides a methodology for evaluating ecosystem valuation and can support the formulation and implementation of eco-compensation policies in these regions.
