An improved grain-based numerical manifold method to simulate deformation, damage and fracturing of rocks at the grain size level

Guang-lei Zhou et al.

Summary: The improved grain-based numerical manifold method combined with an improved contact loop updating algorithm and interface contact model successfully simulated the deformation, damage, and fracturing processes of rocks at the meso-scale. Sensitivity analysis indicated that the model can effectively investigate the influence of different number of grains and stiffness ratio on the macroscopic response of rocks.

Assessing the Stability of Slopes Using Vector-Sum-Based Numerical Manifold Method and Pattern Search Algorithm

Yongtao Yang et al.

Summary: The Numerical Manifold Method (NMM) is an effective analysis method for geotechnical problems. In this study, a vector-sum-based numerical manifold method combined with a pattern search algorithm (PSA), termed VSNMM-PSA, is proposed to assess the stability of slopes. The proposed method accurately determines the safety factors and failure surfaces for slopes, providing an improved tool for slope stability evaluation and design.

Yongtao Yang et al.

Summary: The computational treatment of frictional discontinuities in rock masses within the NMM framework is discussed in this study, proposing a new numerical method UALNMM. This method combines the advantages of Lagrange multiplier method and penalty method, adopts multi-layer iterations, and discusses the detailed implementation. The accuracy and robustness of the method are validated through the use of benchmark examples.

Modeling Wave Propagation in Rock Masses Using the Contact Potential-Based Three-Dimensional Discontinuous Deformation Analysis Method

Yongtao Yang et al.

Summary: The recently proposed 3D-CPDDA method, which is based on three-dimensional contact potential, has been further improved for wave propagation problems in rock masses. By incorporating a viscous non-reflecting boundary and a force input method, the modified 3D-CPDDA method accurately simulates wave propagation in rock masses.
