Cryogenic technology for infrared detection in space

Yinan Han et al.

Summary: Cryogenic technology and infrared detection technology have been developed cooperatively, which is of great significance for the development of space science and technology. The relationships between the infrared wavelength and the dark current in detectors with cryogenic temperature are analyzed to demonstrate the importance of cryogenic technology for infrared detection. Based on an analysis of infrared detection characteristics and cryogenic temperature requirements in different temperature zones, the development direction of cryogenic technology for infrared detection in space is discussed, along with its application in several key infrared space missions.

A low noise cryogen-free scanning tunneling microscope-superconducting magnet system with vacuum sample transfer

Saurabh Chaudhary et al.

Summary: The article discusses the successful integration of a cryogen-free scanning tunneling microscope with a cryogen-free superconducting vector-magnet, demonstrating operation at extremely low noise levels below 30 fA/root Hz. It also presents atomic resolution imaging and spectroscopy of surfaces at cryogenic temperature and in the presence of a magnetic field. The design of the in-house customized cluster-vacuum-line assembly offers opportunities for continuous uninterrupted imaging of ultra-clean surfaces without the need for cryogenic refills.
