Role of microRNA-21 and microRNA-155 as biomarkers for bronchial asthma

Sabrin Mohamed Mohamed Abd Elhamed ElKashef et al.

Summary: The study found that asthma patients had significantly higher serum expression levels of miRNA-21 and miRNA-155, with a positive correlation between miRNA-21 and IL-4 levels. miRNA-21 and miRNA-155 show potential as non-invasive biomarkers for the diagnosis of eosinophilic asthma and treatment response assessment.

Autophagy: A Friend or Foe in Allergic Asthma?

Efthymia Theofani et al.

Summary: Autophagy is a crucial self-degradative process in cells that plays a key role in cellular renovation, physiology, and homeostasis. It can be triggered by factors such as starvation, pathogens, and stress, and is important in immune response regulation. Dysregulation of autophagy processes, either impaired or overactive, can contribute to the pathogenesis of various diseases, including infections and cancer.

LncRNA H19 Inhibits Proliferation and Migration of Airway Smooth Muscle Cells Induced by PDGF-BB Through miR-21/PTEN/Akt Axis

Haiying Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, down-regulation of LncRNA H19 and up-regulation of microRNA-21 were observed in serum samples of children with asthma and PDGF-BB-stimulated ASMCs. Overexpression of H19 inhibited proliferation and migration of ASMCs induced by PDGF-BB, and this effect was mediated through the miR-21/PTEN/Akt axis. H19 promoted PTEN expression by sponging miR-21 and suppressed Akt phosphorylation.
