Are Endogenous Androgens Linked to Female Sexual Function? A Systemic Review and Meta-Analysis

Elisa Maseroli et al.

Summary: The meta-analysis shows a moderate association between total testosterone and sexual desire/global sexual function in women, which is confirmed, although weak, in studies employing liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Similar results on desire were obtained for free testosterone and Free Androgen Index (FAI). DHEAS only showed a positive association with global sexual function. More research is needed.

Sexual inhibition and sexual excitation in a sample of Polish women

Krzysztof Nowosielski et al.

Summary: The study validated the Polish translation of SESII-W in a sample of Polish women and confirmed its usefulness in clinical practice. The results demonstrated that the Polish version of SESII-W has good psychometric properties, with a higher inclination towards inhibition associated with the presence of sexual problems, distress, and FSD, while a higher inclination towards excitation was associated with engaging in risky sexual behaviors and personality traits.

Predictors of Sexual Satisfaction in Women: A Systematic Review

Diana Rausch et al.

Summary: This review systematically identifies and evaluates current research on sexual satisfaction in heterosexual women in long-term relationships, finding that relationship satisfaction and sexual behavior frequency are the most frequently confirmed predictors. However, results regarding the effects of pornography consumption, religion, and relationship duration show the greatest inconsistency. Identified effects are believed to often result from mediator variables like sexual desire or distracting thoughts.

Krzysztof Nowosielski et al.

Summary: A study on women aged 45 to 55 found that those using menopausal hormonal therapy had higher body esteem, better sexual function, and quality of relationship during sexual activities, as well as lower prevalence of sexual dysfunction and complaints. However, the study did not find a significant association between using MHT and modifying sexual function or decreasing the risk of sexual dysfunction and problems.
