Forest bioenergy as a land and wildfire management tool: Economic valuation under different informational contexts

Ligia Costa Pinto et al.

Summary: Forest biomass utilization for energy production is increasingly popular and has been proposed as a forest management tool to reduce forest fire incidence. This study examines public acceptability of promoting forest biomass use through a non-market valuation methodology and controlled information exposure. Results show that respondents value increased use of forest biomass for energy production, especially when provided with information on national benefits and fire prevention benefits.
