Hydrothermal carbonization of rape straw: Effect of reaction parameters on hydrochar and migration of AAEMs

Chen Cheng et al.

Summary: Hydrothermal carbonization improves the biomass quality and energy yield of rape straw. The properties of hydrochars produced at different temperatures and residence times were investigated. The results showed that increasing temperature had a more significant effect on hydrochar properties than residence time. The hydrochar structure was changed and became more stable after the aromatization reaction. The gasification reactivity of hydrochar was also affected, with the peak of pyrolysis and gasification shifting to a higher temperature region. Furthermore, hydrothermal carbonization efficiently reduced the content of alkali and alkaline earth metals, with the best removal condition observed at 200°C.

Hydrothermal carbonization of forest waste into solid fuel: Mechanism and combustion behavior

Wang Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the structural characteristics and fuel performance of hydrochars prepared by hydrothermal carbonization of forestry waste. The results showed that the mass yield of hydrochar decreased with the increase of hydrothermal carbonization temperature, while the content of gas and liquid products increased. The volatile content of hydrochar gradually decreased and the fixed carbon content increased with the increase of temperature. The porosity and specific surface area of hydrochar increased first and then decreased, reaching the maximum value at 240 degrees C. The combustion process of hydrochars can be divided into two stages: volatile matter removal and carbon combustion.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of pyrolysis temperature on the combustion behavior of biomass-derived charcoal under conditions simulating tuyere injection operations. Results show that higher pyrolysis temperature leads to lower charcoal yields, decreased volatile matter and oxygen content, and increased carbon content. Charcoal particle size affects conversion degree in the injection rig reactor, with significant differences observed between different temperature charcoal properties.

The role of new energy in carbon neutral

Zou Caineng et al.

Summary: Carbon dioxide is an important component in the global carbon cycle, with dual properties of converting organic matter in ecosystems and contributing to the greenhouse effect. Achieving carbon neutrality is a consensus, but faces challenges in politics, resources, technology, market, and energy structures. Carbon replacement, emission reduction, sequestration, and cycling are key approaches, with carbon replacement as a crucial aspect. New energy sources like solar, wind, hydro, nuclear, and hydrogen power play a major role in achieving low carbon emissions, with green hydrogen serving as a reserve force. Artificial carbon conversion technology acts as a bridge between new and fossil energy sources to reduce emissions effectively. China is predicted to reach peak carbon dioxide emissions of 110x10(8) t in 2030, but could potentially decrease to 22x10(8) t, 33x10(8) t, and 44x10(8) t by 2060 under various scenarios. To achieve carbon neutrality, implementing a new energy structure and promoting energy independence strategy are essential in China.
