Continuous air purification by front flow photocatalytic reactor: Modelling of the influence of mass transfer step under simulated real conditions

Youcef Serhane et al.

Summary: In this study, a photocatalytic process using TiO2 coated on a cellulosic support for the treatment of toxic gases has been investigated. The degradation efficiency of the photocatalytic media and the influence of input concentration and flow rates were evaluated. The results showed that mass transfer is an important factor to consider in the photocatalytic process for continuous treatment.

Removal of organic pollutants from wastewater by advanced oxidation processes and its combination with membrane processes

Fatima Ezzahra Titchou et al.

Summary: Wastewater treatment is a crucial global issue, with organic pollutants posing risks to the environment, leading to the widespread use of membrane filtration, AOPs, and their combinations. Technologies such as photocatalytic ozonation, photoperoxonation, and ultrasound associated processes have shown high efficiency in removing organic pollutants, with the potential for significant cost savings. AOPs/membranes coupled processes are effective in enhancing treatment efficiency and reducing overall costs, offering advantages such as improved water quality, energy savings, and environmental friendliness.

Advanced oxidation processes for elimination of xylene from waste gases

Tomas Prostejovsky et al.

Summary: Experimental study on the elimination of xylene using advanced oxidation process in a pilot plant demonstrated that xylene conversion decreases with increasing initial concentration and air flow rate. The mathematical model for the first step of the unit indicated that the main pathway of xylene elimination is through reactions with hydroxyl radicals. The pilot plant unit showed higher energy-cost efficiency for higher flow rates of waste gas, suggesting potential for the technology in removing organic compounds from the air with further studies needed.

Laser irradiation method to prepare polyethylene porous fiber membrane with ultrahigh xylene gas filtration capacity

Junfeng Cheng et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the preparation of polyethylene porous fiber membrane with excellent low-concentration VOCs filtration performance using laser irradiation technology. Controllable thermal energy generated by laser irradiation produces a porous carbon layer on the surface of the fiber membrane, which efficiently adsorbs xylene gas. This research provides a positive reference for the large-scale preparation of polyolefin porous fiber membrane with VOCs filtration by simple and efficient laser irradiation method.
