Loss of Baiap2l2 destabilizes the transducing stereocilia of cochlear hair cells and leads to deafness

Adam J. Carlton et al.

Summary: The study highlights the importance of the hair bundle protein BAIAP2L2 in maintaining the normal actin structure of transducing stereocilia in mature cochlear hair cells. Deficiency of BAIAP2L2 leads to loss of specific row structure in hair cells, reduction in mechanoelectrical transducer current, and progressive deafness. BAIAP2L2 interacts with key stereociliary proteins and its localization depends on motor protein MYO15A and its cargo EPS8.
