Proportional impact prediction model of animal waste fat-derived biodiesel by ANN and RSM technique for diesel engine

Suleyman Simsek et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal ratio of animal waste fat biodiesel and corresponding engine responses using artificial neural networks (ANN) and response surface methodology (RSM). Results showed that both ANN and RSM had high accuracy in predicting engine responses, with R values above 0.97 for ANN and R-2 values above 0.95 for RSM. The developed ANN model had a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) ranging from 3.787% to 10.730%, while RSM had a MAPE ranging from 2.004% to 11.461%. Overall, the study found good agreement between the optimal results and the predicted results, with a maximum error rate of 3.863%.

A comparative study of combustion performance and emissions of dual-fuel engines fueled with natural gas/methanol and natural gas/gasoline

Zhanming Chen et al.

Summary: Experimental comparative study on the combustion characteristics and performance of a dual-fuel engine using natural gas/methanol and natural gas/gasoline as fuels showed that both methanol and gasoline addition could accelerate the burning rate of natural gas, leading to increased peak cylinder pressure and maximum heat release rate. Methanol addition increased brake thermal efficiency while reducing total hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions, whereas gasoline addition had the opposite effect.
