No plate tectonics necessary to explain Eoarchean rocks at Isua (Greenland)

Hugh Rollinson

Summary: The basalts from the Isua greenstone belt in West Greenland are likely derived from a mixture of depleted lower mantle, mantle transition zone, and shallow upper mantle reservoirs, with the melting and mixing processes driven by heat transfer from hot deep mantle sources. This geochemical interpretation suggests the activity of a mantle plume and/or heat pipe in the geodynamic model proposed.

Titanium in calcium amphibole: Behavior and thermometry

Yue Liao et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new Ti-Amp thermometer for thermometry of high-grade metamorphic rocks. The thermometer's application is subject to specific conditions for accurate results, yet it can be successfully applied to natural rocks containing amphibole. Further research is needed to improve the understanding of amphibole behavior and stability, as well as to enhance the accuracy of both pseudosection modeling and conventional thermometry.

First evidence of eclogites overprinted by ultrahigh temperature metamorphism in Everest East, Himalaya: Implications for collisional tectonics on early Earth

Jia-Min Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the burial and exhumation processes of granulitized eclogites in the Everest east region, central Himalaya. The results show that the eclogites underwent eclogitization and ultra-high temperature conditions induced by over-thickened felsic crust and lithosphere thinning. This case study provides insights into the UHT conditions during continental collision and suggests a global pattern of Himalaya-type continental subduction/collision during the Paleoproterozoic.

Pre-Neoproterozoic continental growth of the Yangtze Block: From continental rifting to subduction-accretion

Jun-Yong Li et al.

Summary: The Yangtze Block exemplifies the gradual formation of cratons since the Archean, and it is suggested to be divided into north and south parts due to distinct rock configuration and tectonic evolution. The block experienced Columbia assembly, supercontinent breakup, and accretion of terranes, involving extensional tectonics and seafloor spreading. These processes, along with mantle input and terrane accretion, contributed to the continental growth and reshaping of the Yangtze Block.
