Competition between crystal growth and intracrystalline chain diffusion determines the lamellar thickness in semicrystalline polymers

Martha Schulz et al.

Summary: This study explores the non-equilibrium thickness of lamellar crystals in semicrystalline polymers and its relationship with ICD and crystallization temperature. By studying poly(oxymethylene), a case with relatively slow ICD, the research fills the gap in previous studies and contributes to establishing a quantitative dependence of lamellar thickness on the noted timescales.

Improving the thermal properties of olive/bamboo fiber-based epoxy hybrid composites

Bushra Rashid et al.

Summary: In this work, thermal analysis was conducted on olive/bamboo fiber-based epoxy hybrid composites. The study found that the incorporation of hybrid fibers improved the thermal stability compared to pure fiber composites. The storage modulus and loss modulus reduced, while the damping factor increased with hybrid fiber composites. Additionally, the OTL-B hybrid composite exhibited a lower coefficient of thermal expansion.

Polyoxymethylene/Reduced Graphene Oxide-g-Melamine Nano-composites With Low Formaldehyde Emission: Intercalation Structure and Synergistic Thermal Oxidative Stabilization Effect

Wuyou Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a reduced graphene oxide-melamine hybrid was prepared by grafting melamine onto the surface of graphene oxide and subsequent reduction. The hybrid was then used to manufacture a polyoxymethylene/reduced graphene oxide-melamine (POM/rGO-MA) nanocomposite. The incorporation of melamine improved the hydrogen bonding and intercalation of POM molecules in the composite, resulting in a significant decrease in formaldehyde emission and improved thermal degradation properties. The mechanical property of the composite remained stable, and the melt index increased slowly during thermo-oxygen aging. The grafting of melamine onto the graphene oxide surface enhanced the thermal migration resistance of melamine and radical scavenging ability of graphene oxide, leading to an excellent synergistic removal effect of formaldehyde and remarkable oxygen barrier property.

Friction and transfer behavior of alumina nanoparticle-reinforced carbon fiber/polyoxymethylene composites in the deep sea environment

Zhentao Qi et al.

Summary: Ternary nanocomposites based on CF/POM composites with different amounts of Al2O3 nanoparticles were fabricated. The incorporation of Al2O3 nanoparticles improved the mechanical strength, thermal stability, and seawater resistance of the composites, with optimal properties observed at 4.0% Al2O3 loading. The tribological properties of the composites were influenced by the transfer behavior at the polymer-metal interface in ordinary seawater pressure, while elevated seawater pressure weakened wear resistance due to the transfer of the composites.

Quantifying dielectric and microwave absorption properties of barium titanate and strontium ferrite filled polymer composites

Alper Kasgoz

Summary: This study investigated the dielectric and microwave absorbing properties of thermoplastic polyurethane composites filled with BaTiO3 and SrFe12O19, finding that SrFe12O19 is more effective in enhancing microwave absorption. Hybrid composites containing both fillers showed lower RL values compared to composites with single fillers, but with narrower absorption bandwidth.
