CT Noise-Reduction Methods for Lower-Dose Scanning: Strengths and Weaknesses of Iterative Reconstruction Algorithms and New Techniques

Payam Mohammadinejad et al.

Summary: IR algorithms are widely used in CT imaging for noise reduction, although they may alter spatial resolution and noise texture in different regions of the image. New IR algorithms and CT noise-reduction techniques are emerging, with convolutional neural networks showing promise for reducing noise while preserving image detail. Novel CT noise-reduction methods are being developed to leverage spatial and/or spectral redundancy in multiphase or multienergy CT imaging.
