Recovery from Work: Advancing the Field Toward the Future

Sabine Sonnentag et al.

Summary: Unwinding and recovering from work is crucial for employees' well-being and performance. This article summarizes research on recovery in different settings such as work breaks, leisure time, weekends, and vacations. The findings indicate that recovery processes can be improved through deliberate training programs. Future research should focus on emerging themes like changing boundaries between work and nonwork life, increased reliance on teams and technology, and changes in employment arrangements.

Development of a music therapy micro-intervention for stress reduction

Martina de Witte et al.

Summary: Negative stress is a serious risk factor for physical illnesses and emotional problems. Music therapy interventions for stress reduction have been increasingly studied, but not systematically developed. A music therapy micro-intervention for stress reduction was developed based on empirical knowledge and feedback from experts, resulting in improved description of two intervention variants.

Salivary Biomarkers of Stress, Anxiety and Depression

Sylwia Chojnowska et al.

Summary: Stress, anxiety and depression are often characterized by activation of the stress axis, leading to similar symptoms and closely related occurrences. Current diagnosis methods lack laboratory tests for confirmation, hence studying salivary components may aid in quick diagnosis and treatment monitoring. Promising salivary biomarkers such as cortisol, sIgA, lysozyme, melatonin, sAA, CgA, and FGF-2, show fluctuations in saliva concentrations, indicating strong associations with psychological issues like stress, depression, and anxiety.

Music Listening Does Not Inoculate the Stress Response in Young and Older Adults

Katlyn Peck et al.

Summary: Although the acute stress response is adaptive for survival, frequent and intermittent activation of the acute stress response may have negative health consequences over time. The study aimed to examine the potential inoculation effect of music on acute stress reactivity using a comprehensive set of stress indices. Results failed to show a significant inoculation effect of music on the stress response, and exploratory analyses did not reveal differential effects based on sex or age.

Neuronal Effects of Listening to Entrainment Music Versus Preferred Music in Patients With Chronic Cancer Pain as Measured via EEG and LORETA Imaging

Andrea McGraw Hunt et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that chronic pain patients exhibit overactivation of high theta and low beta power in EEG, and personalized music therapy can help reduce pain. Additionally, entrainment-healing music intervention can lead to changes in brain wave activity.
