Calonectria in the age of genes and genomes: Towards understanding an important but relatively unknown group of pathogens

JieQiong Li et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the taxonomy, population biology, and pathology of Calonectria species, specifically emerging from contemporary studies that have relied on DNA-based technologies. In addition, a life cycle is proposed to improve our ability to manage diseases caused by these pathogens.

Calonectria vigiensis sp. nov. (Hypocreales, Nectriaceae) associated with dieback and sudden-death symptoms of Theobroma cacao from Merida state, Venezuela

Sari R. Mohali et al.

Summary: A newly described fungal species, Calonectria vigiensis sp. nov., associated with cacao in Merida state, Venezuela, was identified using morphological methods and DNA sequencing. This species was found to be distinct from closely related species within the Calonectria genus based on phylogenetic analyses.

Species Diversity and Distribution Characteristics of Calonectria in Five Soil Layers in a Eucalyptus Plantation

LingLing Liu et al.

Summary: This study collected 1000 soil samples from a Eucalyptus urophylla hybrid plantation in southern China and identified 1037 Calonectria isolates, with the majority found in the 0-20 and 20-40 cm soil layers. The diversity of species in the C. kyotensis complex decreased with increasing soil depth, except for C. orientalis. This study provides valuable insights into the species diversity and distribution of Calonectria in different soil layers.
