Analysis of Cytosine Methylation in Genomic DNA of Solanum X michoacanum (+) S. tuberosum Somatic Hybrids

Paulina Smyda-Dajmund et al.

Summary: The research revealed that somatic hybridization in potato leads to an increase in DNA methylation levels, affecting the epigenetics of the hybrids. Variations were observed in the DNA methylation levels between wild potato species and cultivated varieties.

Interspecific potato somatic hybrids between Solanum malmeanum and S. tuberosum provide valuable resources for freezing-tolerance breeding

Wei Tu et al.

Summary: Freezing tolerance was successfully transferred from S. malmeanum to cultivated potato through protoplast fusion. Valuable resources for freezing tolerance breeding were obtained, and breeding resources with enhanced freezing tolerance and tuberization capacity were obtained. The correlation analysis showed that freezing tolerance is not related to tuberization capacity and they may be controlled by independent genetic loci.
