Interactive effects of biotic stressors and provenance on chemical defence induction by holm oak (Quercus ilex)

Manuela Rodriguez-Romero et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the patterns of induced chemical defences in Quercus ilex leaves are specific to the biotic stress factor and vary significantly locally and geographically. Survival to stress is more related to constitutive defences than induced ones, and the induced response is stressor-specific. Interactive effects between stressors depend on provenance, with different effects (induction/inhibition) observed.

Impact of heat stress of varying severity on papaya (Carica papaya) leaves: Major changes in stress volatile signatures, but surprisingly small enhancements of total emissions

Chikodinaka N. Okereke et al.

Summary: Tropical plants are thought to have high heat stress resistance, but global climate change-induced heat waves may exceed their tolerance. In this study, papaya leaves were subjected to different heat treatments and it was found that papaya could withstand moderately severe heat stress up to 46 degrees Celsius, but photosynthetic recovery was delayed. Volatile organic compound emissions were also found to be relatively small, indicating that papaya has heat resistance and heat-protective traits.
