Neuroprotective effects of curcumin on the cerebellum in a rotenone-induced Parkinson's Disease Model

Heba Fikry et al.

Summary: This study investigated the protective influence of curcumin on the cerebellum of rats with rotenone-induced Parkinson's disease. The results showed that curcumin could alleviate degenerative changes and neurotoxic effects in the cerebellum, as well as reduce oxidative stress. This suggests that dietary supplementation of curcumin may have neuroprotective effects against cerebellum-related Parkinson's disease symptoms.

Nrf2 inhibition induces oxidative stress, renal inflammation and hypertension in mice

Zeba Farooqui et al.

Summary: In this study, mice treated with Nrf2 inhibitor ML385 and pro-oxidant BSO exhibited exacerbated hypertension, increased oxidative stress, and renal dysfunction. Compared to mice treated with only BSO, co-treatment with ML385 and BSO showed increased activity of phase II antioxidant enzyme and significant alterations in inflammatory cytokine levels.

Curcumin and its analog alleviate diabetes-induced damages by regulating inflammation and oxidative stress in brain of diabetic rats

Chengfeng Miao et al.

Summary: Curcumin and its analog A13 were found to inhibit the NF-kappa B p65 pathway, increase superoxide dismutase activity, decrease malondialdehyde levels, and significantly improve brain histological lesions in diabetic rats. This suggests that A13 may be a potential therapeutic agent for diabetic encephalopathy by regulating inflammation and oxidative stress pathways.

Summary: The abnormal accumulation of misfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum and their aggregation lead to inflammation, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and the development of neurodegenerative diseases. Curcumin, a mixture of low molecular weight polyphenolic compounds from turmeric, has shown promising effects in preventing various diseases, including SARS-CoV-2 infection and neurodegenerative disorders by regulating the unfolded protein response.

Aberrant Lighting Causes Anxiety-like Behavior in Mice but Curcumin Ameliorates the Symptoms

Dhondup Namgyal et al.

Summary: In this study, mice exposed to dim light at night (dLAN) showed increased anxiety-like behavior and body weight, while those in complete darkness (DD) only had increased anxiety. Curcumin treatment ameliorated anxiety-like behavior but not body weight, possibly by modulating PER1 gene expression. These findings highlight the negative impact of altered light/dark cycles on body weight and emotions in laboratory animals, as well as the potential therapeutic effects of curcumin.
