San-Wu-Huang-Qin decoction attenuates tumorigenesis and mucosal barrier impairment in the AOM/DSS model by targeting gut microbiome

Yelu Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, it was demonstrated that San-Wu-Huang-Qin decoction effectively inhibits tumorigenesis and protects the mucosal barrier in colorectal cancer (CRC) at least partially by targeting gut microbiota. This research provides a scientific basis for the clinical usage of San-Wu-Huang-Qin decoction in the intervention and prevention of CRC.

Pharmacokinetics and Excretion of Berberine and Its Nine Metabolites in Rats

Xinchi Feng et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the pharmacokinetic and excretion profiles of berberine and its nine metabolites in rats. The results showed that berberine was rapidly metabolized and all nine metabolites could be detected in vivo. The excretion study revealed that 18.6% of berberine was excreted in feces as berberrubine.

Compatibility with Semen Sojae Praeparatum attenuates hepatotoxicity of Gardeniae Fructus by regulating the microbiota, promoting butyrate production and activating antioxidant response

Yusha Luo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that Gardeniae Fructus Combination (ZZCD) showed lower hepatotoxicity compared to Gardeniae Fructus (ZZ) at the same dosage. ZZ induced gut dysbiosis, but when combined with DDC, these effects were reversed and beneficial genus were increased. Butyrate played a detoxifying role in genipin-induced liver injury by promoting colon integrity and activating Nrf2.

Transcriptome Profiling and Metagenomic Analysis Help to Elucidate Interactions in an Inflammation-Associated Cancer Mouse Model

Kazuko Sakai et al.

Summary: Colitis-associated colorectal cancer is the third most significant condition that increases the overall risk of developing colorectal cancer. This study identified enrichment of genes associated with fatty acid metabolism, oxidative phosphorylation, and the PI3K-Akt-mTOR pathways in the colonic mucosa of DSS/AOM mice. Additionally, functional analysis inferred from fecal microbial composition showed enrichments of the sphingolipid signal and lipoarabinomannan biosynthetic pathways.

Fecal Microbiota and Gut Microbe-Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Colorectal Cancer

Jihye Park et al.

Summary: The study found significant differences in the microbial composition, evenness, and diversity of fecal microbiota and gut microbe-derived EVs in colorectal cancer (CRC) subjects compared to control subjects. Additionally, there were noticeable changes in microbial composition, evenness, and diversity between late-stage and early-stage CRC subjects in both fecal microbiota and gut microbe-derived EVs. EVs derived from certain microbes could serve as novel biomarkers for diagnosing CRC and predicting CRC stages.
