Many-Body Exciton and Intervalley Correlations in Heavily Electron-Doped WSe2 Monolayers

Jing Li et al.

Summary: The study reveals the existence of the X-' state in WSe2 monolayers, where field-induced filling and emptying of the lowest optically active Landau level leads to repeated quenching of the corresponding optical absorption, accompanied by absorption changes to higher unoccupied Landau levels in both the K' and K valleys. This demonstrates the many-body nature and intervalley correlations of the X-' quasiparticle state.

Composite excitonic states in doped semiconductors

Dinh Van Tuan et al.

Summary: This paper presents a theoretical model of composite excitonic states in doped semiconductors. The model integrates many-body interactions between a photoexcited electron-hole pair and the electron gas into a computationally tractable few-body problem, which is solved using the variational method. The study focuses on electron-doped monolayer (ML)-MoSe2 and ML-WSe2, revealing that in both cases the core of the composite is a tightly bound trion surrounded by a region depleted of electrons. The theory is general and can be applied to semiconductors with different energy-band properties, allowing for the calculation of excitonic states and the quantification of interaction with the Fermi sea.

Relaxation and darkening of excitonic complexes in electrostatically doped monolayer WSe2: Roles of exciton-electron and trion-electron interactions

Min Yang et al.

Summary: This study presents photoluminescence measurements in monolayer WSe2, demonstrating the importance of the interaction between charged particles and excitonic complexes. The theoretical analysis highlights the role of exchange scattering in changing the composition of the complex and rendering bright excitonic complexes dark. The study also sheds light on the features commonly observed in the photoluminescence of this monolayer semiconductor.

Exciton-polaron Rydberg states in monolayer MoSe2 and WSe2

Erfu Liu et al.

Summary: The study involves measuring the reflection and photoluminescence of monolayer MoSe2 and WSe2 devices to observe gate-tunable exciton polarons. It shows the contradiction between the trion picture and the robust excited states, indicating the presence of exciton-polaron nature in both ground and excited excitonic states in charged monolayer MoSe2 and WSe2.

Rydberg series of dark excitons and the conduction band spin-orbit splitting in monolayer WSe2

Piotr Kapuscinski et al.

Summary: Strong Coulomb correlations and multi-valley electronic bands in conjunction with spin-orbit interaction are key factors in the study of excitons in monolayers of transition metal dichalcogenides. The presence of a series of Rydberg dark exciton states in tungsten diselenide monolayer, in addition to conventional bright excitons, allows for experimental evaluation of the amplitude of spin-orbit band splitting in TMD monolayers. Excitonic physics dominates the optical response of semiconductor monolayers, with the identification of dark excitons revealing spin-orbit splitting in the conduction band of monolayer WSe2.

Electron-exciton interactions in the exciton-polaron problem

Summary: Recent studies have shown that the absorption properties of moderately doped two-dimensional semiconductors can be described in terms of exciton polarons, which exhibit classical charge-dipole behavior in the long-range limit and are only slightly modified for moderate doping. The dependence on doping can be well captured by a model with a phenomenological contact potential.
