Characteristics of high-contrast gratings based spoof surface plasmon polaritons and the application in microwave all-dielectric metamaterial absorbers

Mengchao Guo et al.

Summary: High-contrast gratings (HCGs) based spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) are a new type of SSPPs with different characteristics and mechanisms compared to traditional metal-type SSPPs. The height-length ratio R of the dielectric element determines the different fundamental dielectric resonator modes, leading to new characteristics and more working modes. In low R mode, HCG-based SSPPs can work under deep-subwavelength thickness and can be easily excited by free space wave, making them suitable for all-dielectric metamaterial absorbers (ADMMAs).

A Dual-Band Polarization Insensitive Metamaterial Absorber with a Single Square Metallic Patch for Sensing Application

Yongqiang Kang et al.

Summary: A dual-band polarization-insensitive metamaterial absorber was proposed, achieving two resonance peaks with absorbance of 97% and 99%. Unlike previous works, the dual-band response is obtained by combining resonances of different sizes. The first absorption peak, resulting from surface lattice resonance, shows great sensitivity and a high-quality factor, making it potentially valuable for biosensors and monitoring applications.

A polarization-insensitive dual-band plasmonic metamaterial absorber for a sensor application

Yongqiang Kang et al.

Summary: A polarization-insensitive dual-band plasmonic metamaterial absorber is proposed in this study, which achieves two absorption peaks with over 97% absorbance and nearly perfect absorption for all polarization angles of both TE and TM modes on normal incidence. The second absorption peak, resulting from surface lattice resonance, shows large sensitivity performance and high quality factor, holding significant potential in the application of biosensors and monitoring.

Narrowband mid-infrared absorber based on a mirror-backed low-index dielectric lattice

Qiong Wu et al.

Summary: The paper presents the design of a narrowband mid-infrared absorber using low-index dielectric pillar arrays on a highly reflective metal plane, achieving high-quality lattice resonance. By heating its substrate, the narrowband absorber can function as a high-Q surface-emitting thermal emitter in the mid-infrared.

Tunable dual-band metamaterial absorber at deep-subwavelength scale

Yongqiang Kang et al.

Summary: A tunable dual-band metamaterial absorber consisting of a gold square ring and a metal film separated by a strontium titanate dielectric was investigated. Two resonance peaks with over 99% absorbance were achieved at room temperature. The proposed absorber can be easily manufactured and extended to other frequencies for various applications.

Design and Full Characterization of a 3-D-Printed Hyperbolic Pyramidal Wideband Microwave Absorber

Xhoandri Lleshi et al.

Summary: This study presents a fully 3D-printed wideband metamaterial absorber with an absorptivity above 0.95 in the X and Ku-bands and a fractional bandwidth of 0.71. By vertically stacking multiple resonant cavities, a hyperbolic metamaterial with a pyramidal shape is designed to achieve wideband absorption. Lossy filaments and tailored cavity dimensions are used to increase dissipative losses and absorb equidistant frequencies for unitary and flat absorption.
