The Role of Phospholipid Transfer Protein in the Development of Atherosclerosis

Xian-Cheng Jiang et al.

Summary: PLTP activity plays a crucial role in influencing atherogenic and anti-atherogenic lipoprotein levels, with both deficiency and overexpression of PLTP having significant impacts on lipoprotein metabolism and atherogenesis. Despite reducing cholesterol efflux capacity, PLTP activity does not seem to affect macrophage reverse cholesterol transport in mice. Furthermore, PLTP activity is associated with metabolic syndrome, thrombosis, and inflammation, making it a potential target for the treatment of dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis.

Endotoxin Mass Concentration in Plasma Is Associated With Mortality in a Multicentric Cohort of Peritonitis-Induced Shock

Didier Payen et al.

Summary: High plasma LPS mass concentration and high SAPS II are associated with increased mortality in patients with peritonitis-induced septic shock. In the HLPS group, high PLTP levels are linked to lower plasma levels of IL-6 and IL-10.

Increased Phospholipid Transfer Protein Activity Is Associated With Markers of Enhanced Lipopolysaccharide Clearance in Human During Cardiopulmonary Bypass

Maxime Nguyen et al.

Summary: The study investigated the association between pre-operative PLTP activity and lipoprotein concentrations with LPS concentrations in cardiac surgery patients. The results showed that higher PLTP activity was associated with lower LPS concentration, while cholesterol-rich lipoproteins were not directly related to LPS clearance or inflammation.

Targeting inflammation in atherosclerosis - from experimental insights to the clinic

Oliver Soehnlein et al.

Summary: Inflammation plays a substantial role in atherosclerosis and targeting inflammatory pathways could provide a promising new avenue to prevent and treat the disease. Clinical studies have shown that modulation of inflammation can help prevent the clinical complications of atherosclerosis. Refining strategies for combatting inflammation in the disease is crucial for further progress in managing atherosclerotic risk.

Summary: Recent genetic data has provided important insights into the roles of lipoprotein subfractions and particle sizes in preventing coronary artery disease, with medium HDL particles and small HDL particles showing potential protective effects against CAD. Further investigations are required to fully understand the role of HDL particle size in CAD prevention.
